Yōsai significa “fortaleza”, que além de indicar o lugar de origem do grupo, transmite também a sua essência: força, energia e firmeza. O grupo foi criado em setembro de 2007 na Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE) com o intuito de difundir a cultura japonesa no estado e promover a integração dos alunos do curso de japonês desta universidade. Embora ainda jovem, o grupo já foi convidado para se apresentar em vários eventos na UECE, no Centro de Convenções, no Centro Cultural Dragão do Mar, entre outros. Em fevereiro de 2008, o grupo, com o apoio da Associação Yosakoi Soran do Brasil, trouxe a Fortaleza a professora Masako Shimahara, especialista em dança Yosakoi Soran, da Japan International Cooparation Agency (JICA) realizando o primeiro workshop desta dança no estado do Ceará. Em março, o grupo também teve a oportunidade de ensinar o Yosakoi Soran a crianças de uma pequena vila de pescadores localizada em Canoa Quebrada, no litoral leste do Ceará. Este ano, o grupo se esforça para poder participar pela primeira vez do Festival Yosakoi Soran Brasil em São Paulo.
